Ports Australia welcomed announcement made today that Port Kembla has been chosen as the site for an LNG import facility.
The Port Kembla Gas Terminal (PKGT) could potentially provide cheaper natural gas to 70 percent of the NSW market.
Chief Executive of Ports Australia, Mike Gallacher, said “The announcement by NSW Ports that Port Kembla will be the home for a new LNG import facility is a brilliant development for the people of NSW and the Illawarra region.”
“Ports across Australia act as gateways to international and domestic economies giving facilities like the new PKGT access to international gas markets while providing a service to people and business in NSW.
“The facility at the Port will bring jobs to the region and provide cheaper natural gas to the state of NSW. This partnership is a great example of how the industry can work with the Port sector to the benefit of people living near the Port and further afield.”
