The aim of the Port Marine Safety Management Guidelines for Australian Ports (the Guidelines) is to promote good practice in the conduct of safe marine operations. They provide a framework which ports in Australia may choose to use as a guide. They encourage the use of a systemised procedure for evaluating risks inherent in port marine operations, and suggest ways to address and minimise those risks.
The Guidelines are not law. They are designed to provide guidance on good practice and to outline a template against which the policies, procedures and performance of port marine operational practice may be measured.
