Oceans of Opportunity: Couldn’t join us in Gladstone? Here’s what you missed!

frame

More than 230 attendees joined us in Gladstone for BizOps2025. Guided by the theme Oceans of Opportunity, the conference explored some of the breakthroughs in sustainability, engineering and safety, as well as some of the innovative projects shaping our port sector.

BizOps is a chance for those critical to the function of our ports to connect, collaborate and share ideas. With several networking functions on the agenda, this year’s BizOps was one of our biggest and best yet.

A special thank you to our Major Sponsor and hosts Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Watch the highlights below!

Sponsors

Our Sponsors play a key role in BizOps every year. Not only do they help us create a buzzing atmosphere of knowledge sharing and one-of-a-kind networking, but they also bring a wealth of sector knowledge with them. A huge thank you to our 2025 sponsors and exhibitors for their generous contribution.

Port of Gladstone Tour

To kick off the conference, BizOps delegates embarked on a tour of Gladstone Port, sponsored by Smit Lamnalco. It was smiles and sunshine from attendees coming from all around Australia as we welcomed them to beautiful Gladstone. Thank you to tour guide Ged Melrose, who stepped us through the unique operation behind this impressive multi-commodity port.

Women in Ports Breakfast

Off the back of our inaugural iteration in 2023, this year’s Women in Ports Breakfast explored the topic Powering Opportunity through Diversity, facilitated by OneStop CEO Sam Askin.

With almost a full house in attendance, Sam opened the session with an interactive conversation on mentoring, asking audience members to share some of ways people have benefited from being both a mentee and mentor, and some advice for those wanting to get involved in the process. “Having clear ideas on why you want that relationship, what you’re going to achieve and being structured around it has been useful,” one participant shared.

Logistics & Project Cargo Manager at Port of Brisbane, Nicola Murray, reflected on how her own curiosity helped unlock her career path in supply chains, and how following your interests can take you to some extraordinary jobs. “If you’ve got that drive, you can come into this industry and there’s a lot to do.”

The panel also unpacked some career challenges and some ways that organisations are working to create more diverse workforces.

“It’s important to note that we have progressed, but we still have a long way to go,” shared Jane Blackbourn, Executive General Manager People at Gladstone Ports Corporation. “I think we’ve got an untapped resource in increasing women’s participation, particularly in senior leadership roles.”

Electrical Apprentice Ella Green shared some of her experience as a young person working in the sector, with this advice for others like her: “Don’t let anything restrict you, give it everything you have, because there’s so many different careers in this industry that women do amazing at.”

Thank you to all those who joined us for the breakfast this year.
