Port Nelson is the maritime gateway for Te Tauihu (Top of the South Island in New Zealand). Annually, the port handles approximately 3.3 million tonnes of cargo. The cargo volume breakdown comprises approximately 67% exports and 33% imports. Key export commodities include forestry products, seafood, pip fruit, and wine. Port Nelson plays a vital role in the wine industry's supply chain, as 70% of New Zealand's wine is produced in the Marlborough region. For imports, commodities include fuel, vehicles, cement, and methanol. Additionally, Port Nelson accommodates one of New Zealand's largest marine service sectors.
