The cargo volume breakdown comprises approximately 67% exports and 33% imports. Key export commodities include forestry products, seafood, pip fruit, and wine. Port Nelson plays a vital role in the wine industry's supply chain, as 70% of New Zealand's wine is produced in the Marlborough region. For imports, commodities include fuel, vehicles, cement, and methanol. Additionally, Port Nelson accommodates one of New Zealand's largest marine service sectors.
