We're honoured for our Sustainability Report to be included on a strong list of candidates for the IAPH WPSP's awards, and proud of our members for their numerous entries.
Ports Australia sees sustainability at the very core of business, community and environmental prosperity. As an island nation, over 98 per cent of our country’s trade passes through the port gate, which means our ports have the key role of leading Australia’s trade network on a sustainable path. As the peak body representing those ports, we won’t stop promoting and encouraging their journey as they follow that path.
We'd like to extend a special congratulations and good luck to fellow Aussies, Gladstone Ports Corporation and Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd, both with multiple entries, as well as our newest members, Solomon Islands Port Authority.
Brisbane have four separate projects in the running, including their Nonlinear Channel Optimisation Simulator (NCOS) system, Offsite Stormwater management program, Marine Cadetship Program for Women, and Migratory Shorebird Monitoring project.
Gladstone's entries include their Indigenous Affairs Strategy, and Sustainable Sediment Management Project, and Solomon Islands Port Authority is running with their Green Ports Project.
CEO, Mike Gallacher took the chance to thank his team and members for their hard work and contributions towards the Sustainability Report.
"We were extremely proud of our Ports and a Sustainable Australia report last year – we're now even prouder of it being judged against the world's ports sustainability projects and in the running to win an award which carries global recognition," Mike said.
"We realised very quickly when creating our Sustainability Report that the efforts being made across the country in the scope of sustainability are undeniable and deserve acknowledgment. Our members who are continuing with their push for a sustainable future are the reason the report exists, and for that I thank them.
"I'd like to congratulate the Port of Brisbane and Gladstone Ports, both of whom have multiple entries in the running. Our newest international members, Solomon Islands Port Authority are also among the candidates and I wish them all the best.
"We're incredibly proud that we can help represent Oceania's focus on a sustainable future for the port industry and the communities its ports reside in," Mike said.
